710 Harding Avenue, Blacksburg
Eric Effinger
Located on a busy street, this garden reflects the owner’s love of tropicals, ferns, and evergreens – a banana tree carefully wintered over flourishes year to year. Alocasia, colocasia and bromeliads peek out everywhere, and a philodendron grows large. Eric’s interests and expertise go far beyond the exotic, however: interspersed with the tropicals are pulmonaria, hellebores, ferns, hostas, and numerous annuals. The church property next door benefits from Eric’s gardening; the 25-yard green space that divides the church driveway from the homeowner’s property is packed with texture and color. This garden bursts with energy, color, and love.
