1300 Harding Avenue, Blacksburg
Lynne and Hugh Osmus
Moving to Blacksburg in 2019, Hugh and Lynne Osmus have practiced what they call “garden archeology” since then. Previous owners of the house and property had established “Hill Top Gardens,” and many plants in it had provided food for wildlife over several decades. A deer fence erected two years ago has allowed those perennials—day lilies, coneflowers, roses, asters, and hostas, among many others—to flourish again, and has provided protection for the many other perennial plants the owners have added. A stone pathway leads the way to several outdoor spaces, one of which features a repurposed summerhouse, and another of which is home to a huge magnolia tree, about 50 years old.
